Tips for the Desi Bride: Shopping in India?

CALLING ALL INDIAN BRIDE’S TO BE!! Are you trying to cut down costs on your clothes, jewelry, accessories and pretty much everything else for your wedding?! Why shop here in the U.S when you can shop for cheaper with a wider variety of options in India? Most of you already know this but here a few tips we’re sharing to remember and pass on to your nearest and dearest!

Timing:

Whether it’s two months or two weeks before your wedding, don’t freak yourself out over ordering things from India. Yes the shipping costs will be higher the closer to the date of the wedding but if your trying to pick or choose your clothes last minute, there are already fabrics of all different colors and shades with designs and patterns already sewn on. All your tailor would need are your measurements and your preferences.

Make a look book:

What exactly is a look book? Well, what used to be done is that brides would put together inspirational pictures for the different aspects of their wedding. Whether cutting out pictures of different designer dresses from Vogue or pasting pictures from the Home Goods catalog for the theme of you wedding; brides have been pre-planning their wedding on paper for years. Since we now live in the age where everyone has access to the internet and Google, brides have begun to use resources such as Pinterest! This website specializes in created “boards” for separate segments of inspiration. For example, lets say you wanted to create a specific board for pictures of inspiration for your dress and another for your shoes. You would have both boards lined up next to each other and all you need to do is click the board to add or delete pictures. The convenient part is that since the internet is world wide, you don’t need to physically carry a scrap book but rather just take your smart phone or tablet!

Pictures!

Take pictures of the different styles you see in the U.S stores and the different stores you browse in India. After lining up the pictures you’ll come to see the difference between each of the saree’s, lengha choli’s and Indo-Western combinations. The smallest difference could mean all the world to you on your special day. So why pass up the opportunity to look over each and every detail! This also allows for multiple photo ops with you and those who are accompanying you. Why pass up the opportunity for a selfie contest and a chock full of memories to scrap together post marriage!

So guys, today we’ve covered a few of the tips shared by brides just like you! If your interested in exploring some of our own Desi/Indian boards; check us out on Pinterest and don’t forget to visit our website http://www.weddingcarnivals.com for all your bride-to-vendor needs! Happy Shopping!
