It’s easy for wedding expenses to spiral out of control. It can also be rather difficult to determine what expenses to cut and how to go about it. If you need to cut down on extra wedding expenses but aren’t sure where to start read our tips. Have more tips? Let us know in the comments!

  • DO avoid in-season wedding dates. Do your research. More often then not, you may receive additional discounts if you book your venue during a less popular time like the winter months in January, February and March.
  • DO trim the guest list if you can. If there is room to do some additional cutting it may be in good judgment. Keep in mind you simply can’t afford to invite everyone to your wedding. If you decided that everyone is essential, limit the amount of plus ones.
  • DO go for all-inclusives. Packages will be your best friend. For instance, it may save you money to book a photographer that provides a package including photography, video and engagement pictures instead of booking each separate.
  • DO stick to in season flowers. Keep in mind that flowers that are in season will be less expensive and easier to come by.
  • DO have restrictions on your open bar. Instead of offering a buffet of liquors, beers wines, shots, etc. limit the selection to wine, beer and a few signature drinks of your choice.
  • DO consider a DJ versus a band. Did you know that DJ’s are generally cheaper then bands? Another pro to hiring a DJ is that they will have your favorite music on hand and ready to go.
  • DO get in touch with your inner crafter. Do It Yourself projects, if done correctly, can save money. Get your bridesmaids together for craft nights! Remember to stay focused and make sure you are actually saving money. Sometimes people can go overboard wih crafting and end up spending more.
  • DO think about having your ceremony and reception at the same place so you don’t have to hire a limo driver. IT will be convenient for your guests as well!
  • DO cut costs by eliminating a fancy rehearsal dinner. If you are getting married during the summer months think of doing a more casual event such as a barbecue or outdoor gathering.
  • DO dessert different. The traditional three-tiered cake can get very expensive. Opt out for more cost effective but equally delicious treats such as cupcakes.
  • DO consider an outdoor wedding instead of a venue. Cut major costs by having your wedding at a back yard instead of a venue. Outdoor weddings can be more casual and even more fun! If you have a relative who has prime location think about transforming it to the wedding of your dreams!
